He's the ranking minority leader on the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee who can't even make it to the few hearings they've held this year, he completely missed the first two sending Sen. Brown to sit in his place! Instead of demanding the country finally sacrifice, especially the wealthy, as he and his co-horts rubber stamped these present wars off the books, till this exec. administration, and all borrowed still as the deficits had started rising as the surplus left was depleted quickly Before 9/11, and the tax cuts came with the wars! The House has already tried a couple of times to cut the VA budget and huge cuts are in the Ryan plan, yet to be passed bvut they're still running on!

Senators vote no on paying vets to get VA care
The Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee rejected a novel idea on Wednesday that would pay veterans to go to all of their mental health counseling and appointments.

The proposal failed on an 8-7 vote.

Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina, the panel’s ranking Republican, said he was trying to prompt a shift in focus at the Veterans Affairs Department: from paying and supporting not just people with disabilities, but also people trying to get better.

Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee chairman, opposed Burr’s amendment, saying she had “a great deal of trouble with the implication that veterans would fake symptoms or actively seek to remain injured in order to game the system and receive more compensation.”

“I fundamentally believe our veterans who have mental health injuries want to get better, everyone of them,” she said. “They want to get back to their lives.”

She also said she didn’t see how Burr's proposal would resolve a problem that comes from not having enough mental health professionals to treat veterans. read more>>>
